PRIVATE  TRAINING

 

Private sessions allow individuals to have appointments which fit their schedule and are specifically tailored to their preferences, needs, and goals.  Much more interactive work with biofeedback is possible in private sessions compared to group programs, which some people find very beneficial in working toward their health and performance goals.

CONTENT :

The initial appointment consists of an intake and interview to determine how stress management and high performance skills training would be most feasible and appropriate for the individual. Often this session includes a Psychophysiological Stress Profile and takes approximately 90 minutes in total. This initial meeting concludes with a summary of findings, a training plan, and recommendations.

An individual training program may include such components as: self-awareness cues, coping strategies, relaxation skills training, biofeedback, worry control, recognizing and reducing stressful self-talk, visualization, mental rehearsal, development of an individualized stress management lifestyle program, etc. Any of the topics covered in the group programs can be explored more in depth in these private sessions. After the initial appointment, each training session is usually one hour in length.

TIMES :

Appointment times are available on weekdays during the daytime or evening. It is strongly recommended that appointments are initially held on a very regular basis, once or twice a week, for strongest skill development. Appointments can later be tapered to once every two or three weeks to ensure continued integration of skills into the person's lifestyle and further progress toward goals.

NUMBER OF SESSIONS :

The number of sessions may vary greatly from person to person depending upon current health status, coping skills, goals, and schedule. On average, the number of individual sessions tends to be between 4 to 12 sessions. Progress and goals are reviewed every four to five sessions.

LOCATION :

Individual sessions are held in a private office, a block away from the University of Guelph campus.

FEES :

Private session fees are $85.00 per hour, with a student rate of $40.00 per hour.

OHIP does not cover these costs, but some extended health care plans do.
